ELTEX / POLYTYPE CONVERTING: New system for preventing misting in roll coaters
30th January 2019
For the application of 100% silicone coatings, mainly multi-roll coating heads are used. In order to increase the output, higher production speeds are targeted. This results in misting in the nip, which rises with increasing speeds. In addition to the costs, the misting has extensive negative influences. Just to mention a few: the contamination with accompanying environmental pollution, health risk for the operators and the increased safety risk due to the danger of slipping.
Polytype Converting, together with Eltex-Elektrostatik, has developed a patented method to prevent this. It uses electrostatic forces by means of a double-row plasma electrode. The process has the advantage that it can also be used for coatings where no Antimisting additives can or may be added. The process has been used in a pilot plant of Polytype Converting in Fribourg and by some customers in production, with impressive results: Misting could be almost completely avoided without influencing the release properties. Besides equipping new machines, existing machines can also be retrofitted.
